Zanzibar, aka Spice Island, is lined with white sand beaches, offering a vibrant fusion of cultures. The island was colonized by the Portuguese, Arabs and English and tragically was the center of the East African slave trade in the 1800’s. While the predominant religion is Islam, large Hindu and Christian populations also reside on the island. Impressive architecture reflects Arab, Indian and African influences. This article covers how to spend one week in Zanzibar.

2 Days in Hershey & Harrisburg, PA

Milton Hershey founded Hershey’s chocolate company in 1894. Today a town built on chocolate welcomes visitors from around the world to experience a place where streetlights are capped with Hershey kisses. Prior to visiting Hershey, we knew about the amusement park, Hersheypark, but were unfamiliar with other great activities this family destination has to offer.

Here are our recommendations for a 2-day itinerary in Hershey and Harrisburg. This area makes for a convenient weekend getaway from nearby cities like New York, Philadelphia, Baltimore and Washington, DC (where we live), all of which are under a three-hour drive away.

Milwaukee rests 90 miles north of Chicago. Wisconsin’s largest city offers picturesque views of Lake Michigan and a hopping brew scene. Many German immigrants settled in Milwaukee in the mid 1800’s and the city reflects much of their influence. Milwaukee has been home to several of the nations biggest breweries throughout its history, earning the nickname “Brew City.”

I took a 90 minute Amtrak train from Chicago to Milwaukee to explore the city. I left impressed with the Milwaukee’s architecture, food and how friendly its residents are. Here’s 10 great things to do in Milwaukee!

Tarpon Springs, Florida: A Local Guide for a Unique Experience

Just 30 miles northwest of Tampa, Tarpon Springs has the largest per capita Greek American population among USA destinations. Around 25% of over 29,000 Tarpon residents are of Greek descent. An abundance of excellent Greek restaurants, bakeries, fresh seafood, craft breweries, boutique shops, beach concerts and festivals makes Tarpon Springs a popular tourist draw – especially on weekends.

The Sponge Docks are also a great place to take a boat tour to nearby Anclote Key, for fishing, dolphin watching, or a small boat sunset cruise. This unique Florida Gulf Coast town offers a slice of the Mediterranean along Dodecanese Boulevard and Athens Street. Revitalized downtown Tarpon Springs is home to an additional wealth of excellent restaurants, a hip cocktail bar, wine bar and breweries among hip hangouts.
