No women’s sports league garners more mainstream media attention than the Women’s National Basketball Association. It comes after years of effort – and investment – to grow the league’s status, as well as providing the grassroots development systems to produce exciting athletes.
The league’s new era is turning heads, and while broadcasters have done a good job of giving fans access to games on television and streaming, catching games in the flesh offers a unique experience. But which are the best teams to see? And where are the best cities to catch them? Let’s look at five options, combining both top teams and cities that are worth your time to visit:
1. Las Vegas — Aces
Vegas is probably the most obvious choice if you want to see the WNBA. The city itself has grown into a sports mecca, and with the Aces, you get to see the reigning champs and a team backed in this season’s WNBA betting odds to repeat. It’s basically the glamour option for WNBA games, though we should say that the Michelob Ultra Arena feels weirdly intimate and small compared to others. That said, you’ve also got Vegas on your doorstep, so there’s plenty to do before and after the game.
2. New York — Liberty
There’s never a reason not to visit New York, but when you do, a trip to the Barclays Center in Brooklyn to see the Liberty is well worth it. The Liberty are usually a major contender in the WNBA, having quality players like Sabrina Ionescu and Breanna Stewart, as well as Jonquel Jones, for this season. Sometimes going to sports events leaves you feeling a bit cut off from the rest of the city, but the Barclays is right in the thick of the action of Brooklyn, so you’ll have some of NYC’s finest bars and eateries to visit before and after.
3. Indianapolis — Fever
Indianapolis is an underrated city to visit. It isn’t Vegas or NYC, but it doesn’t try to be, either. But if you really want a reason to visit, look no further than the Fever’s franchise star, Caitlin Clark. She’s the biggest name in WNBA, drawing fan interest like no other player. In fact, she’s something of an industry in herself. The team is more than Clark, though, and they have a real chance of going far this season. Gainbridge Fieldhouse is a proper basketball building in a state that treats the sport almost like a civic religion.
4. Minneapolis — Lynx
Minneapolis simply doesn’t get enough respect as a brilliant tourist destination. It might feel off the beaten track at times, but the city comes alive in summer (not so much in winter). The Target Center is in the heart of the downtown area, where all the action is. As for the Lynx, again, we are talking about a contender here, so it’s going to be an interesting few months to see how the team targets its 5th WNBA title.
5. San Francisco— Golden State Valkyries
Probably the least likely to win this season’s WNBA Championship, but the Valkyries still offer one of the more interesting women’s basketball trips. The team recently debuted during the 2025 season, so it has not yet been established as a top-tier contender. Yet, there is a buzz around it, and the Chase Center is one of the league’s best venues. It feels like we are at the beginning of a big journey with this team, which has seen a lot of investment. Obviously, you won’t be stuck for great food and culture in Frisco either.
