This article was published in 2013 about an experience that happened in 2011 on the border of Croatia and Slovenia on a train from Zagreb to Ljubljana. As of January 1st, 2023, Croatia is now part of the Schengen area with Slovenia. So there is no border control on the train between Croatia and Slovenia. Travelers from outside the European Union should insure that they do not stay past 90 days in the Schengen area.
