Edinburgh Castle is a historic castle in Edinburgh, Scotland that stands atop Castle Rock. A royal castle has rested on the rock since at least the reign of Malcolm III in the 11th century. The castle was a royal residence until 1633. The area has been inhabited by humans since at least the Iron Age.
