Gettysburg, Pennsylvania is most famous for the epic US Civil War battle that sparked the Union’s victory over the Confederacy in 1863. This history is well documented in the small Pennsylvania town that attracts around 4 million visitors a year. Today Gettysburg is also receiving acclaim for its food and drink scene. Adams County is the nation’s fourth largest producer of apples, making varieties of cider a specialty.

2 Days in Hershey & Harrisburg, PA

Milton Hershey founded Hershey’s chocolate company in 1894. Today a town built on chocolate welcomes visitors from around the world to experience a place where streetlights are capped with Hershey kisses. Prior to visiting Hershey, we knew about the amusement park, Hersheypark, but were unfamiliar with other great activities this family destination has to offer.

Here are our recommendations for a 2-day itinerary in Hershey and Harrisburg. This area makes for a convenient weekend getaway from nearby cities like New York, Philadelphia, Baltimore and Washington, DC (where we live), all of which are under a three-hour drive away.

Philadelphia, PA: A Historic and Tasty Getaway

The home of Independence Hall, the Liberty Bell and Rocky Balboa welcomes visitors to a history filled city packed with delicious restaurants, bakeries and lively bars. Rittenhouse Square, in the French Quarter, is extremely charming for a date night in Philly. The Italian Market, offering a wealth of cookies, baked goods, charcuterie and imported cheeses is one of the most authentic in the country.
